Best Communities for Music Education

For the second year in a row, Palisades School District was Nationally Recognized as a 2021 Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation. The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education.  Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

Instrumental Music Students Receive Honors

Senior, Sierra Kunigus, participated in the 2021 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's Original Composition Program.  Over 280 students participated all over the state and 40 of them were in her category. Sierra was selected as one of the outstanding compositions! Her piece will be featured at the 2021 PMEA (Virtual) Annual Conference, April 14-17.

Additionally, 6 PHS Band members were selected by the University of Pennsylvania's 2021 Virtual Honor Band.  These students were recommended by Director Maldonado and then accepted by the University of Penn!  This event takes place Saturday, April 17th virtually and should be an amazing experience for the students! The students selected are:  Sierra Kunigus 12-Clarinet, Lillian Speicher 11-Flute, Elizabeth Neeld 9-Trombone, Raymond (Jake) Lucera 11-Trombone, Gabrielle Musick 9-Tuba, and Peter Schaefer 11-French Horn.

Grasshopper Exhibit

Honey Smith (Grade 12) Recognized in Mansfield University Art Competition

This program gives high school students and they're teachers an opportunity to exhibit their work together for the month of April at Mansfield University's Art Gallery.  This year, Miss Kitner and Mr. Johnes (PHS High School Art Teachers) entered a total of four students.  Amazingly our very own senior, Honey Smith, took the top honor of "best in show" this year!  This is a very prestigious honor that Honey was able to accomplish.  Honey's piece was a depiction of a scene from Mary Shelley's literary work Frankenstein, titled Modern Prometheus.  The painting is 30" x 20" and was created with acrylic paint.

Senior Prom 2021 Update

This year’s prom will be a senior event. Each senior will have the opportunity to attend with up to 1 guest/date, which may be an underclassman.

The prom will take place on Friday, May 21 from 7:00-9:00 PM under a large tent inside the stadium. The senior class officers and advisors are beginning to plan the evening, which will include a series of events that students will circulate in assigned pods/groups throughout the evening.

FROM OUR BUSINESS OFFICE:

As of right now, the Local Earned Income Tax filing deadline has NOT been extended beyond the April 15, 2021 due date.  While the PA Department of Revenue and the IRS announced that income tax filing deadlines for their 2020 final returns are extended to May 17, 2021, no such change has been made for the Local Earned Income Tax Filing deadline. Keystone will continue to monitor announcements from the Governor’s Office, the State Legislature and the Department of Community and Economic Development regarding any potential change in the filing deadline.   Absent notice from at least one of these entities, the April 15th deadline cannot change as it is set by statute.  Returns filed after this date will be assessed statutory penalty, interest and costs regardless of extensions by the PA Department of Revenue and the IRS.

Any questions regarding the filing deadline should be directed to Keystone’s redesigned website, www.KeystoneCollects.com, or to Keystone’s Taxpayer Services Department at (888) 328-0565.

On behalf of Steve Shreiner, President of Shreiner Tree Care

Good afternoon,

Spring is finally here and with it come new opportunities. As mentioned in my previous communication, Shreiner Tree Care is seeking graduating students, and/or students 18 years of age, who enjoy working outdoors, thrive in a team setting, don’t shy away from responsibility, and embrace a learning environment that will nurture new skills. For these students, we can provide the foundation for a secure financial future and foster a new trade.

Attached please find our flyer with a brief overview of the company, areas of focus, and employment benefits. The positions available are entry-level and full-time. Please note myself and my team are available to interview students by phone and/or Zoom, as well as in person. I would be delighted to connect with you to and discuss the opportunities available to your students. Feel free to call my cell phone at with any questions 610.246.6070.

FROM OUR FRIENDS AT WORTHWHILE THRIFT:

You probably already know that the revenue from Worthwhile Thrift is funneled into our programs for survivors, but what you might not know is that Worthwhile Thrift also functions as a place of employment for the women in The Well program.  It's where they get their feet wet in the resume-building, application process, and employment training skills as they work their way through the program.

To help support the store, Worthwhile Wear is making April "Customer Appreciation Month."  In the final week of April, we will be raffling off a gift basket.  Basically, for every $20 spent at the thrift store, a customer can fill out a slip to be entered to win the gift basket.

This is where you come in!

If you're interested in rallying a team or working alone, would you like to assemble a themed gift basket to be raffled out at the store in the final week of April?  If so, we're looking for something valued at about $150 with a theme of your choosing (remember, the basket will be awarded to a Worthwhile Thrift customer, not to the women at The Well).  With your completed basket, we'll also need a list of the basket contents with an estimated value of each item.

Attached is a list of themed baskets we've used in the past, but you are encouraged to brainstorm.  Gift Basket Ideas

Let me know if you are interested.  The drop off location for the completed baskets is: 5835 Easton Road, Plumsteadville, PA 18949.
