Dear Palisades Families,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome all of our students back to the Palisades School District for the 2018-2019 school year. This summer, our administrators, professional and support staff have worked hard to prepare for an outstanding school year by:

  • Attending professional development trainings in Advanced Placement, Responsive Classroom, gifted education, trauma awareness, and reading intervention, to name a few

  • Improving our facilities with a new roof at PALMS and office reconfigurations to enhance security

  • Interviewing for a variety of professional and support staff positions to recommend the best candidates to the School Board for consideration

  • Implementing best practices into the development of our next comprehensive plan

Looking forward, I am excited about several initiatives and program enhancements including:

  • The expansion of our School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention System (SWPBIS), which was successfully launched at Springfield Elementary two years ago, for which they were recently recognized at the state level for their ability to implement the program with fidelity.  The SWPBIS was launched last year at Durham Nockamixon and will be actively implemented at Tinicum Elementary and the middle school this year.

  • The implementation of a new pathway program at our high school - modeling the framework already established by our Medical Career, Business and Global Pathways - the Engineering and Design Pathway Program is being offered this year for students aspiring to deepen their knowledge in this area of study.

  • The addition of AP Computer Science A, which will bring our total number of AP offerings to 15, and a financial literacy course as a graduation requirement for all students.

  • A new schedule at the elementary level, which allows more regulated time-frames during the student day for math, language arts and specials, as well as teacher planning, communication and professional development.

In conclusion, I wanted to share with you that on July 1, 2018 Palisades School District was named a District of Distinction by District Administration (DA) magazine for the development and implementation of our pathway programs. According to DA, this national award was created to honor school districts that are leading the way with new ideas that work.

I look forward to an outstanding school year for each of our students!

Warm regards,

Dr. Bridget O’Connell

Superintendent
