Letter from the Superintendent 2020-21

Letter from the Superintendent 2020-21
Dr. Bridget O'Connell

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!

I am looking forward to welcoming both our face to face and online students back for this very special start to the school year.  Our team has focused all efforts this summer on making sure we are both reopening in the safest way possible and providing enhanced virtual learning opportunities.

More specifically, during these last few months we have accomplished the following and more, in preparation for the start of the year:
*
Developed and communicated our Board Approved Health and Safety Plan
*
Welcomed our student athletes and marching band students back on site for preseason activities
*
Surveyed all of our families to determine which mode of education would be chosen for each and every student for the first half of the school year
*
Wrote FAQs and other community messages to provide details and information regarding our plans and distributed this information to the families in our district
*
Organized our staffing needs based on parent educational choice and hired long term substitute teachers to support our face to face and virtual modes of instruction
*
Procured necessary cleaning supplies, gloves, masks, tables, hand sanitizing stations and other items needed to open our buildings safely
*
Completed the cleaning and sanitizing of our school buildings
*
Completed bus routing to allow for no more than 2 students in each bus seat (70% of our routes will have 1 student per seat)
*
Purchased new cameras, laptops, drawing tablets and software to enhance our online learning program through the Palisades Cyber Academy
*
Provided opportunities in our calendar for orientation and extended holiday breaks for intensive cleaning of our buildings
*
Renovated the science wing at the high school; this project will continue into the early fall

Throughout this school year, we will continue to update our Health and Safety Plan and follow guidance provided by the Departments of Health and Education, from the Centers for Disease Control and our educational partners like the Lehigh Valley Health Network and Coordinated Health.  The newly presented masking order (8/17/20) is the most recent example of updates to the plan that we anticipate will occur throughout the school year.

As you can see, “TEAMWORK” is the theme of this year’s calendar.  At Palisades, we take pride in working together with all of the sectors of our community to provide the exceptional educational experience that our students deserve.  Regardless of the hurdles throughout this year, we will face them together and make any changes that we have to in order to navigate these uncharted waters.  My wish is that you have a successful school year and that you and your families remain safe and healthy!

All the best,

Dr. Bridget O’Connell

Superintendent
