Patch 121418

AREA SCHOOLS’ SECURITY UPDATE:

UPDATE #1:  As you may have seen in the local news, multiple emails announcing a bomb threat were received by area locations - daycares, hospitals and schools this week.  (NO threatening emails were received at Palisades.) Police investigations have determined that these threats are all scams derived to extort money from the organizations that were targeted.  All Bucks County schools have been informed of the situation and have been directed to contact 911 and district administration if a threatening email is received.

UPDATE #2: This message was released by Quakertown School District earlier today and is worth sharing with all parents/guardians.  The situation occurred in Quakertown School District, however, reminding your children about what to do in a similar situation is prudent.  Here is the message released by Quakertown School District today: Parents and guardians, we wanted to make you aware of a report given to us today by a secondary student. She said she was walking on 9th Street in Quakertown Borough this morning when a man in a black sedan got out of his car and made inappropriate comments to her. He then got back into his car and drove away. Quakertown Borough Police Officer Bob Lee, our Student Resource Officer, is investigating. For their protection, please consider sitting down with your student(s) and remind them how they should react if approached by a stranger. Police recommend that children should leave in the opposite direction of the stranger and go to a public place or other location where there are adults who can help. Here are some tips to share. While they may seem obvious to adults, children can sometimes be too trusting:

1. Don’t talk to strangers. 2. Don’t take anything from strangers. 3. Don’t go anywhere with someone you don’t know. 4. Use the buddy system when possible – avoid walking alone.

You and your children can help by immediately reporting suspicious people, behaviors or vehicles to police. Please do not hesitate; it is better to be safe than sorry. Please know that all Quakertown Community School District employees are committed to the safety of your children. Thank you.
UPDATE #3: As if parents and guardians do not have enough to worry about, here is another. This information has been posted on several places and the article warns parents/guardians about a new, dangerous "game" on social media with creepy a character called "MOMO."
‘Momo Challenge,’ a dangerous viral game, prompts warnings to parents - FOX 2 News St. Louis - KTVI
NEW JERSEY — A disturbing viral trend called the "Momo Challenge" centers around a creepy image of a woman. Children as young as 6 years old have reportedly been swept up into the challenge, which promises death to victims who don’t follow the orders of the character. The Brick Township Board of Education, in New...
