TINICUM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES THE BIG 6-0!
Tinicum Elementary students and staff took a walk back in time to celebrate 60 years of educational success at this school location.  Having opened in September of 1958, the school has seen many changes in the building and in the way that curriculum is delivered, and of course, the curriculum itself!  Students learned about the history of the school, its beginnings and the people who made this school what it is today!  Congratulations to the Tinicum Tigers on the success of your first 60 years!  Wishing you many more years of success and nurturing of our youth!  Special thanks to everyone who helped to plan the celebration, especially Dr. Borger and the planning committee!  Bravo!

On Tuesday, November 13th, Palisades School District will host a TOWN HALL MEETING ON SAFETY AND SECURITY.   Please join us on this evening from 6:30-8PM at Palisades Middle School, as we hear from a distinguished panel of experts in the field including Matt Weintraub, District Attorney of Bucks County, and representatives from the law enforcement and mental health fields.  Light refreshments will be served in the lobby at 6:00PM and child care will be available for children (ages 4+).  Please add this important date to your calendar.

 

NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY SCHEDULED:  The national drug take back day has been scheduled for Saturday, October 27th - please drop off any unused or unwanted prescription drugs at Springfield Elementary School or Wehrungs between 10AM and 2PM.  Get them out of your medicine cabinets and keep them away from our youth! Also, it is better to drop off than to flush into our water system - thanks for keeping our community safe!


Over 54 tons of unused/unwanted drugs have been collected since the beginning of the program!


There are 10 drop sites in Upper Bucks.  The 8 Police Departments will be at their regular sites including:  Dublin, Hilltown, Pennridge Regional, Tinicum (at Wehrungs), Perkasie, Quakertown, Richland Township and Springfield Township (at Springfield Elementary School).  We also will now have drop sites on that day at Grandview Hospital Outpatient Center and St. Luke's Quakertown.

You’re invited!  PYC (Partnering With Youth and Community) will be holding Open House events on Sunday, September 16 and October 14, both at 3:30 pm at
Camp Haycock. Choose the date that works best for you! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 
Springfield Township Community Day - 275TH Anniversary!


Springfield Township needs volunteers to help out with the 275th Anniversary Event 
on Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Any amount of hours you want to help is appreciated. Your duties will include: helping vendors to set up (8:30 - 9:30 AM) Assist community groups with their displays. Walking grounds  to help where needed. Monitor trash cans. The PHS Marching Band will be playing at this event!  Join the fun and support our students!

A Little Princess

PALISADE HIGH SCHOOL PROUDLY PRESENTS... "A Little Princess" will be held on Friday, November 9th (7PM) and Saturday, November 10th (1PM).  This year's fall play is being produced by PHS students, Anna Leinenbach and Julia Costello.

NATIONAL NEWS:  FDA intensifies crackdown on e-cigarette sales to teenagers

The Food and Drug Administration announced a set of major new enforcement actions Wednesday aimed at reducing the sales and marketing of electronic cigarettes to teenagers. NPR, Sept. 13, 2018 DID YOU KNOW? 1. Usage has increased 900 percent since last year. 2. All pods contain heavy metals one of which is lead. 3. The amount of nicotine in a pod is equivalent to smoking one pack of cigarettes.

REGISTER TO VOTE:

Next week our Government and Development of Public Policy class will be hosting the Bucks County League of Women Voters on Monday, September 17th for a Voter Registration Drive.  PHS students who are currently 18-years-old or who will be 18 by the November 6th election are encouraged to register to vote.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SKI PROGRAM:  The 2018/2019 Palisades Elementary Ski Program has begun!  Please review this flyer for more information- Elementary Ski Program Flyer For those familiar with the program, it is largely the same, with these notable exceptions:


1. Lessons are now limited to age 8 and up

2. You can use the program tickets any day starting March 4,2019.


For those unfamiliar with the program, please see the attached flyer.


If you'd like to participate, send an email to [email protected]  no later than October 5th, 2018.  You will then receive a signup link, which will direct you to Blue Mountain's website to sign up for the program. Please do not share this link, as without a list of who purchases tickets I will not be able to get them to you.

 

BUCKS COUNTY SUICIDE PREVENTION TASK FORCE:  #holdonyoumatter Walk to raise money and and awareness for suicide prevention in Bucks County.  Walk will be held on Saturday, October 20th.  See attached flyer - You Are Not Alone

FROM OUR PARTNERS IN EDUCATION - NOCKAMIXON STATE PARK:  This October, we will be hosting two trainings for anyone looking to enrich their knowledge of how to recreate outdoors safely and sustainably. West Chester University and Nockamixon State Park Educators are teaming up to bring you workshops on Leave No Trace Ethics and Wilderness First Aid. You can sign up for one or both of these trainings - there is a special discounted price for anyone who opts to attend both trainings. A total of 30, Act 48 hours will be available for teachers who attend. These trainings are geared toward formal and informal educators and/or group leaders (ie. Scouts, Outdoor youth group leaders, etc). If you do not fall into any of these categories, but are interested in attending one or both of these trainings, please contact me and we can discuss registration options.

 

*Lodging and some meal/snack options will be provided by the park as part of the training.*
