Palisades Cyber Academy Attendance Policy

In accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Compulsory School Law, all children are required to attend school from 6 years of age and remain in school until the child reaches the age of 18 or graduates. Students are expected to be present at school unless absent with parental permission. Regular attendance is in the best academic interest of the student and increases the likelihood that the student will be successful in the classroom, traditional or virtual. Students enrolled in the Palisades Cyber Academy are subject to the same attendance policy as students enrolled in the traditional "brick and mortar" program. Attendance for students enrolled in PCA is achieved through attendance in synchronous activities and course progress/completion of asynchronous activities.

Students who are not making progress in their PCA courses will be addressed on a case by case basis.  Interventions may include the option of returning to receive face to face instruction if space permits.

Academic Integrity

Plagiarism/Cheating is the stealing or claiming of someone else's ideas or words as your own without crediting the source and/or aiding in this act. Plagiarism/Cheating will be monitored at the department level. The following penalties will be assessed if a student is found guilty of cheating on any test, project or assignment.

  • You will be given a zero as a final grade on that assignment.
  • Parental notification by the teacher will occur.
  • First offense (middle and high school) will result in a one day in school suspension. (ISS)
  • Second offense (middle and high school) will constitute out of school suspension. (OSS)
  • The student will be denied privilege of participation/membership in clubs or activities for the remainder of the year.
  • Any future recommendations given by teachers may also be affected.

Cyber Laptops/Borrowing Instructional Materials and Equipment

Instructional materials including, textbooks, laptop computers and other equipment (e.g. calculators, books, magazines) are at all times the property of the Palisades School District, even when in physical possession of the student or parent/guardian. The PCA is willing to allow students to borrow these materials based on equipment availability and student need. The school district will not provide "consumable" products to the students (e.g. printer paper, ink, etc.), however PCA students are welcome to use the printers in the schools during the regularly scheduled school day.

Students are responsible for the textbooks, chromebooks and any other school property issued to them. Students' families may sign up for chromebook insurance offered by the district through a 3rd party or they will be required to pay replacement fees for items that are lost or damaged while in their possession.

Once a student has completed all assignments at the end of the school year, course, or semester, or in the event that the student leaves the school district, the borrower (e.g. student/family) must return all equipment within five business days. If equipment is not returned or is damaged when returned, the parent or guardian is responsible to compensate the school district for the cost of the equipment. Failure to do so may result in legal action.
